The Anterior Approach is a muscle splitting approach that avoids cutting muscle or tendon that then requires repair. The incision is in the front outer third of the upper thigh. (i.e. not directly in front).
The surgery is performed either with a leg holder/positioner or on a standard operating table. Dr Solomon uses the leg positioner technique as it allows a much more fluid and controlled environment to expose the femur. The leg positioner also enables easy X-ray machine access (Image Intensifier) that allows real time X-ray vision of the implants to ensure accurate implant positioning at the time of surgery.
The approach is a very stable approach and allows in most patients an easier and quicker short-term recovery without the need for hip precautions.
